The Combat Fitness Test (CFT) is a physical fitness assessment designed by the United States Marine Corps to evaluate a Marine's functional fitness in combat-related tasks. It complements the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and assesses different aspects of physical readiness.
The CFT consists of three main events:
Movement to Contact: This event simulates moving under combat conditions. Marines must complete an 880-yard sprint within a certain limit.
The Movement to Contact event is timed, and Marines receive scores based on their completion time. The quicker they navigate the course and complete the required tasks, the higher their score.
Ammunition Lift: The Ammo Can Lift event assesses a Marine's upper body strength, muscular endurance, and ability to handle weighted objects repetitively. It specifically targets the shoulders, arms, and back muscles, which are essential for tasks involving lifting and carrying heavy loads during combat.
Marines lift two 30-pound ammunition cans from the shoulder to overhead, repeating this task within a two-minute time limit
Maneuver Under Fire: This event simulates engaging an enemy while conducting tactical movements. Marines sprint 300 yards, perform combat-related tasks like low crawls, casualty drags, buddy carries and grenade throwing,
The Maneuver Under Fire event evaluates a Marine's ability to perform various combat-related tasks under physical and mental stress. It assesses agility, endurance, strength, and tactical proficiency in a dynamic and challenging environment.
